Alarm grading

Under the new European standards, alarm systems are being graded based on the security risk of the premises. Watford Alarms uses only qualified installers and all the systems that we provide are recognised by insurance companies.

We would always strongly recommend that you speak to your insurers before deciding which grade of system is best for you.

Grade 1 This is a DIY system which is not police or insurance approved.

Grade 2 x (This is the lowest grade system that Watford Alarms installs) Grade 2 x is a Bells-Only system and is suitable for homes or small businesses.

All the systems below qualify for police response:

Grade 2 Grade 2 is a monitored system which is suitable for homes or small businesses.

Grade 3 Grade 3 is a monitored system that must have dual path signalling such as DualCOM or RedCARE. It is suitable for homes with high value goods or businesses that are at reasonably high risk.

Grade 4 Grade 4 is a monitored system that must have dual path signalling such as DualCOM or RedCARE, and, in some cases, would qualify for an armed police response. It is suitable for very high risk properties such as banks.

Types of Alarms

Bells Only Alarm

Bells-Only alarms, otherwise known as Audible-Only alarms, make only an audible noise from the external and/or internal sounders when the alarm is triggered. The Bells-Only alarm deters intruders and alerts neighbours. On its own, this will not generate police response. Watford Alarms offers a speech dialler which will call you upon activation. This has a one-off fee of around £75.00.

Speech Dialler

Speech diallers are designed to enable the alarm system to send messages to up to 3 people by using an existing phone line and playing a pre-recorded message. These do not qualify for police response.

Text Response

This on activation will send a text message to named keyholders. This will also tell them in what areas the alarm has been triggered.

Digicom Monitored Alarm

A Digicom monitored burglar alarm is a house or business alarm which is connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) via your existing telephone line. The ARC receives signals from the monitored alarm system and monitors the protected premises 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and alerts the key holders and/or the police. All monitored alarms must have 2 key holders that do not live at the protected premises but are within a 20 minute drive.

RedCARE

A RedCARE monitored burglar alarm is a house or business alarm connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC), ensuring that the communication link between the security alarm system and the Alarm Receiving Centre is working and continuously polled. The BT RedCARE portfolio includes RedCARE Classic, RedCARE GSM, RedCARE Secure and RedCARE Agile. The ARC receives signals from the RedCARE unit and monitors the protected premises 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and alerts the key holders and/or the police. All monitored alarms must have 2 key holders that do not live at the protected premises but are within a 20 minute drive.

DualCOM GPRS

A DualCOM GPRS monitored burglar alarm is a house or business alarm connected to an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) using DualCOM. This is a cheaper and more flexible alternative to RedCARE. It is a dual-path signalling method that works on any standard telephone line and  currently uses Vodaphone and Orange networks for its radio path signalling. DualCOM is available as a Grade 2, 3 or 4 signalling unit - with the difference in polling frequency being the determining factor. The ARC receives signals from the DualCOM unit and monitors the protected premises 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and alerts the key holders and/or the police. All monitored alarms must have 2 key holders that do not live at the protected premises but are within a 20 minute drive.
